I guess tonight we may have most of our snow washed away. Earlier in the week it was quite beautiful with the new snow clinging to the trees. This picture was taken when everything looked like a Christmas card!

Fred took this picture at Hastings yesterday. Even though Jenny now owns the store, Garey is still "on duty" early every morning (time to make the doughnuts!) and they post the daily specials, as always. The village is fairly quiet right now - the summer/fall visitors have all left the area and it's a little too soon for the snowmobile crowd to be out.

Yesterday when we came back from a quick trip to Danville and the Historical Society, we got this picture so you can see how pretty the pond is right now. The two smaller ponds have what looks like great skating ice on them, but it wouldn't be safe to go out there - at all! The big pond has more snow mix in the ice and some very strange markings across it - like there is a warm current flowing west to east from just below Rossi's. I didn't have my camera with me when I was out today, but noticed it looked quite strange.

West Shore Road has a very thick coating of ice, but it has been well sanded and doesn't seem to be too slippery - as long as you use good sense and drive at a reasonable speed. Right now it's 33.3F and we've had just a skimming of snow. That may change to rain by morning, and the forecast is for some heavy showers on Saturday. That should soften up the icy roads!

I've been going through the photos I mentioned that were part of a collection donated to the Historical Society a short time ago. There are some pretty neat ones of the pond and old camps, and some I hadn't seen of the village. Some are badly deteriorated, while others are wonderfully clear. I've been through about half of the 135 that Dot and Patty identified as being  pictures of West Danville and Joe's Pond. We will certainly be using many of this collection.

Catching Up

As our lovely autumn days begin to turn a bit chill and dreary - the transition from October to November is like that  - I want to share so...
