Unfortunately, we'd made plans to have granddaughter, Tangeni come to spend the day with us Friday. Grandpa had to fill in for me, and I think they had a great time together. They went to Marty's to get lunch and then stopped at Hastings for ice cream. I don't think either of them makes a habit of that sort of thing - I know grandpa doesn't, so it was kind of like they were cutting loose - no mom, dad or grandma to put the brakes on.
In the afternoon, they went to see how Uncle Jamie and Otto were doing. Uncle Jamie got a big gash in his leg while helping a neighbor about a week ago - it's healed well and hasn't been a big problem, but I guess it was quite the emergency when it happened. Tangeni is all sympathy. I noticed in one of the pictures her grandfather took, she has a blackened thumb nail. I didn't notice it when she was here, but I bet there's a story there.
She found a toad in the road and brought it in to show me before she set it free "out of harm's way." They also found a white caterpillar and a few other bugs that were fascinating. Having just been in Africa, she was curious as to whether the white caterpillar or some other species of insects were poisonous. I never really thought about that, but I guess it's good to be aware.
Last night middle son, Bob, played his final gig with "The Hit Men." I was so sorry we couldn't be there - they played at the East Side Restaurant in Newport, and that's one of our favorite places to eat and hang out when Bob is playing. There won't be a next time - the band is breaking up and everyone is going their own direction. Dang!
So I'm moving very slowly, taking naps and hoping this session with vertigo is short. I really can't afford to take a lot of time off from working on this history book. I've set a deadline for myself of the end of this month - sadly, I won't quite make that, but if I get my full stamina back, it will be close - at least to have the gist of the book in the hands of the editor. We'll still need to make adjustments and then there will be pictures to choose and a final edit.
I'm finishing up the Joe's Pond section, Patty Conly is still working on a chapter about the power plant and Dot is helping to research that plus she's a great fact checker when it domes to anything West Danville, so all chapters go through her before they reach the editor. Now we're looking at layouts for the book with our graphic design artist, Randee. We're excited that the end is really in sight - after six years of planning, researching and writing, the end is actually in sight!
