Here we are in the first full day of Autumn! That was a super short summer, I'm thinking. It seems as if it went by almost before it got going. I think we may have a really nice fall, though, with at least one nice "Indian Summer" before snow falls.

The foliage is turning nicely. Andy Rudin sent me this shot, taken this morning from his cottage on the east shore. The sky looks very threatening, and we have had a few showers and cloudy periods, but the sun was pretty nice off and on earlier in the morning. Now it looks pretty gloomy out there, and the temperature is dropping a tad, too.

I measured 1.90 in. of rainfall this morning. We had a quick thunderstorm early in the evening, and after that passed through, the rain came down pretty hard for a while. I was surprised we got that much, but I don't think it did any harm, and it has been very dry for over a week, so the rain is needed.

Leaves aren't falling much yet, and we are nowhere near peak color. It should be nice for the start of Fall Foliage Festival next week, though. It starts in Marshfield on September 29. You can find all the activities listed on our website, www.joespondvermont.com.

Don't forget that Saturday is the chicken pie dinner at the Baptist church in North Danville. That is always a super good feed. Fred and I like to pick ours up and bring them home to eat. We've had our orders in for over a week! Don't want to miss out on that, it's so good. Then we always like the turkey dinner that Cabot puts on during Fall Foliage Festival. That will be on Tues., October 1. Not a good time to be watching one's waistline, but sure is a great way to start of the cooler fall days!

We hope you enjoy the start of fall - even with this changeable, not so pleasant weather we're getting today, it's still pretty out there and lots of interesting things to see and do.
