Diane Rossi took this picture today of several skaters on the pond. It is rare for the ice to be smooth enough for good skating, but the recent warm weather and rain before the deep freeze created some pretty nice ice, even on the wind-swept and often rippled larger pond. That's Barre Avenue shoreline at the lower end of West Shore Road. There are a number of fishing shanties on the ice to the left of the skaters. Diane said one of the skaters had a hockey stick.
