We've been pretty busy lately, but want to keep you up to date on some Joe's Pond and area news.  I mentioned recently that Bentley's Bakery and Cafe in Danville has been sold.  A reader got in touch yesterday to let me know the new owner, Tara, plans to remain open this winter.  Good news for lots of people looking for their favorite goodies and coffee treats.

Also, on yesterday we were able to confirm the dates for next year's Fourth of July Fireworks display here at Joe's Pond.  I know, one would think it would be as simple as the Joe's Pond Association directors sitting down with a calendar and picking a day, but that isn't the case.  Northstar Fireworks, who provide and set off the display, have priorities and some years juggling dates is necessary.  Those who are purchasing way more extensive (and expensive) programs than we do naturally get first choice; however, JPA has been a long-time customer, so that figures into the mix, too.  Thus, we were able to have our usual dates of July 3rd with a rain date of July 5th.  As you know, sales of Ice Out tickets helps fund the fireworks, so every ticket you buy is important.  Tickets are available at Hastings and printable tickets are on line from home page of our website.  Pay on line tickets will be available later in the season.

Here's another interesting factoid that came to me this morning.  Check out this link to the Gozzard City Farm in Cabot.  Thanks to Steve Allen (Meadow Lane) for sending this.  We're wondering if they might like some of our Joe's Pond geese . . . and I'm wondering if domestic geese fly.  We had some very large domestic black ducks when I was growing up, and they flew very well, but rarely took to the air unless frightened.  However, they always came back to their pen.  They had their own swimming hole in a brook below our house.  We used their eggs for cooking - but one of them would easily equal two normal hen's eggs.

Speaking of wild things, the Danville Methodist Church is having their annual Game Supper on November 21st.  We'll try to get more information later, but here's what Jack LaGue (Sandy Beach Road) has to say about this event:
Meat pies are featured, typically venison, moose, bear, coon, beaver, rabbit, and chicken. The tables groan with side dishes, squash, potato, glazed carrots, green beans, cranberry sauce, coleslaw, and pickles, topped off with dinner rolls, coffee, and homemade dessert pies.

Rain today - and snow expected later as temperatures fall.  We could be in for a little nasty weather.
