A Ride to the Other Side

We're back to winter, big time!  We had strong winds today, with some blowing snow, but fortunately there isn't much on the ground to blow around.  We had snow squalls during the day, and temperatures never got above freezing.  And yesterday was a picture-perfect day - sunny, warm and more like June than November.

We had to do some stuff in town, so took a ride around the east, or "other" side of the pond to see the new garage being built at Erdmann's, and then we drove down Old Homestead and checked out the views from Narrows Drive and Laperle Drive.  It was very pretty and peaceful there - and a few people were around doing last-minute stuff to get ready for winter.

Martin and Kate Bertolini are working on their place, too, making it more suitable for year-around living.  We didn't go over to see what is going on, but noticed a couple of dogs romping on the lawn.

We had hard rain and some high winds on Sunday night.  The pond was a bit high, and the brooks were running high, but even so, things seemed to be under control.  This is a small brook that comes off the hills and runs under Route 15 into the brook that feeds into the pond.

This last picture was taken on Laperle Drive - it was very pleasant there, although even the middle pond was getting some wind.

I have some pictures Fred took on Saturday that I'll make into a slide show when I have a little extra time.  Right now I'm late for getting to the kitchen to start supper.

All is well, we're gearing up for Thanksgiving, and have half a dozen other irons in the fire, too.  I'm trying to locate information about West Danville School, the school teachers, any memories anyone has about going there, the politics of the school having to be moved, etc.  If you have anything you'd care to share, send me an e-mail, janebrown@fairpoint.net, or give me a call, 563-2381. I'll be meeting again soon with the committee that's putting the history of West Danville together, working on the school first, then we'll branch out to other subjects, but anything you have will be appreciated.
