Frozen Pond and Painted Saws

I received a message from Andy Rudin today saying that he'd heard from Jesse Laroque.  Jesse lived here in Cabot for a while and does beautiful Indian baskets.  He has a friend who is also an artist, and Jesse was letting Andy know about her.  Andy thought others might be interested in seeing her work, so sent me the link.    Something like that might be the perfect gift for someone on your Christmas list.  Thanks, Andy, for sending that.

We were in St. Johnsbury today and Eastern Avenue was being paved.  Looked like it will be open again for through traffic very soon.  That will be good news for everyone visiting St. Johnsbury.
We had to go to the Green Mountain Mall, and Fred spotted this kind of neat machine parked there.  It didn't look quite as large as the graders Cabot and Danville use, but it looks as if it would do the job.  It was out of place parked at the mall, and we wondered why it was there.  Perhaps St. Johnsbury has purchased it - it's a LeeBoy, and there are no nearby dealers as far as I can tell from searching the internet.

We have more important news to report.  Today when we came back around noon, we noticed the first two ponds are completely frozen over - not thick ice by any means, but apparently strong enough to support a bunch of geese.  Here's a short slide show of the pictures we took today.  It is going to be quite cold tomorrow and even colder for the next few days, with Sunday night being possibly down to the single numbers, so it's possible the entire pond will be frozen over by Thanksgiving.  However, we should remember that in the past, the pond has frozen over two or three times before it's frozen solidly for the entire winter.  We could still have a warm spell that will open everything up again.  Only time will tell.

I found this postcard picture on one of the sites where I've been searching for old pictures of West Danville.  For the life of me, I cannot see any resemblance to any spot on Joe's Pond, can you?  I'd be very interested if someone can identify where this photo was taken.  I have a similar picture postcard that was supposedly taken in Cabot, but again, no place that I can recall looks like it.

Another Adventure

This week turned out to be a doozie for me. I had anticipated going for a follow-up on my knee on Monday, but instead ended up in the ER at ...
