We were in Laconia, NH yesterday to attend a birthday party for our sister-in-law, Ella. It was a great family party, and we enjoyed seeing everyone - adults and children - and meeting some of Tom and Ella's neighbors. The weather cooperated, and it was very nice coming through the mountains.
We were awakened last night at just about midnight by very heavy rain pounding on the roof and windows. At first I thought it was hail, but when we looked outside on the deck, we couldn't see any evidence of it. I expected to find the rain gauge with well over an inch of rain in it, but that wasn't so. Apparently it was just a brief shower that dropped only about .16 in. on us. We've had rain off and on all day.
Ted Decker sent this picture with a message:
One
of the advantages of living on West Shore Rd is that on rainy evenings
when the sun peeks through just before sunset we get to see some
gorgeous rainbows. I took a picture of this one this evening. Sometimes
we get some beautiful double rainbows, but if you look closely at this
one you can make out three and even the hint of a fourth.
Unbelievable!!!!
Just a little taste of Heaven.
Ted
Indeed, this does seem to be a great place to live. The weather alone makes life very interesting. All we need to do is be aware of what's going on around us every day. This evening I happened to look out at just the right moment and saw a rain storm sweeping down the valley from Walden towards Joe's Pond. The sun was shining behind the clouds and it was lovely. It may have been about the same time Ted was getting his picture at the other end of the lake! No rainbow here, but the golden glow was pronounced. Moments later, the wind began tossing the trees, but that didn't last. We got a little more rain, and the temperature has dropped steadily and is now at 53 degrees. Woody seems to be confused - he has been in and out all evening, apparently not willing to go off the deck into the night and get wet, and also not wanting to stay cooped up inside. On warm nights he doesn't mind being out in the rain, but when it gets a little colder, like tonight, he wisely tries to stay dry.
Speaking of Woody, I'm thinking I'll enter a picture or two of him in the kitty calendar contest. If you have a cat, perhaps you'd like to enter, too. Instructions are on the Kingdom Animal Shelter website. You will also find instructions about how to vote for your favorite picture.
