About the Photo Contest (earlier entry)

If you tried to locate the pictures entered in the contest and were unsuccessful, that's because the link isn't active yet.  They are waiting until it's time to vote.  I'm told there will be a meeting on Wednesday next week and some of these things will be ironed out.  This is the first time the Animal Shelter has done anything like this, so they are learning as they go.

You can enter photos now - with a limit of three photos per family.  There will be only one winner picked per household.  Now  the "ground rules" are a little clearer, grab you camera and snap a picture of your favorite feline friend and enter it in the contest.  I'll be entering a picture of our Woody, of course!  If you don't have a pet of your own to enter, be sure to check out all the photos and vote for your favorite.  You can vote every day (but please, just one vote each day!) for the picture you like best.  The picture with the most votes will be on the cover of the calendar - the next 12 highest will have a month assigned.  It doesn't cost anything to enter the contest or to vote, but it would be nice if you purchased a calendar when the contest is over, or at least send a donation to the Kingdom Animal Shelter to help take care of all the adult cats and kittens they take care of all year long.  They are a no-kill shelter, and that means a lot to those of us who love animals, but feeding and caring for them costs money, so any amount will be appreciated.  If you can't give money, but could volunteer, there is information about that on their website, www.kingdomanimalshelter.com.

We're into some very humid, and often downright wet, weather this week.  Yesterday was muggy and sticky - today is about the same, but there's so much moisture in the air (91%RH), everything feels damp.  We had some hard storms roll through during the night.  There was some thunder and lightning, but it didn't seem to be one of those ripping electrical storms that knock out power and start fires.  We got lots of rain, though.  I measured 1.36 in. in my rain gauge this morning.  That was the most I saw recorded by my fellow CoCoRaHS volunteers in this general area.  You can check maps of any area - it's kind of interesting to see where the rain is in other states, as well.

I took this picture yesterday afternoon as another shower was advancing down the valley from Walden.   This is pretty much the way things look today, too - all foggy and wet.  We're still having occasional showers this morning, but the weather is supposed to clear so it will be nice tomorrow for all the things that are planned in the area.

Cabot is having Old Home Weekend, and the Cabot School Alumni Association is meeting tomorrow, plus there's a big lawn sale on the common, an Alumni tea, and a dinner and entertainment in the evening - all part of Old Home Weekend and the Alumni Day.

In Danville, we have a mini-fair going on all day to celebrate the departure of Pike Industries and all the inconvenience they brought doing the make-over through town for the past - what, three years? - at least.  It looks very nice, but everyone is heaving a big sigh of relief that the noise, dust, long lines of traffic, and general inconvenience of the project is finally over.  Head in just about any direction this weekend and you'll find things going on.  It's getting to be the end of summer, so it's important to celebrate while we still have warm weather and (hopefully), sunshine.  Soon we'll be talking leaf-peeping, church suppers and foliage tours.

Catching Up

As our lovely autumn days begin to turn a bit chill and dreary - the transition from October to November is like that  - I want to share so...
