We may have identified the bird I posted earlier. Mary W. says it may be a phoebe or one of the flycatchers. I think it's a phoebe. It was definitely watching the flies that were buzzing around on the warm side of the house yesterday. I hope the birds ate heartily yesterday because everything is getting coated with an icy crust today. Earlier I heard some geese protesting loudly down on the pond. There is only a small amount of open water, and I expect they are jostling for space and not relishing the cold mix of rain, sleet and snow that's assaulting us today. Perhaps our weather will discourage them from staying here and they'll move on . . . ! The phoebes and robins will have a hard time finding food, too, but they'll be ok and will hang out until the weather is better. It's nice to see the songbirds coming back. Thanks to Mary for her suggestion about my bird photo.
