I took this picture on my way down to Cabot this morning - of Mt. Mansfield from the Plains Cemetery.  Yes, you are seeing snow-covered ski trails.  We had  little measurable snow here yesterday, but on the mountain they got a few inches, and I bet it didn't melt today.

 We had a very nice day for the Apple Pie Festival and everything went very well.  The weather was at least sunny, if not very warm, and there was a chilly breeze, so I felt sorry for those ventors who set up outside. The attendance seemed to be very good - steady stream of people coming and going most of the day, and lots of pies. 

I was mainly tending to the table that had our books and membership packets, and that was set up right at the entrance so I could see nearly everyone who came through.  There were a number of Joe's Pond folks - in fact, Judy Lewis, of Sandy Beach Road, took third prize in the adult pie baking contest.  That's Judy with her ribbon.  She worked both last night and all day today helping to set up and then today at selling pies whole or by the piece.  I don't know how many pies were in the contest, but A LOT, and I also don't know who else got prizes.  Some reporter I am, right?  The audio system at the gym is terrible, and unless you were right in front of the stage where they were announcing the winners, you couldn't really hear.  I was able to make out about one in a dozen words.  And I wasn't the only one.  Several people mentioned they couldn't understand what was being said.  Of course, there's usually lots of noise from people talking, too, so it isn't all the fault of the speaker system.

I met lots of interesting people, including some new neighbors over on the Bayley Hazen Road, and some "almost" neighbors from Danville; then there were the folks I haven't seen for a while, some from Cabot, some from away - and one big surprise, the daughter of friends who live in Roxbury that I haven't seen since she was in grade school, and now she's a lovely young woman.  Great fun.

This picture is of our silent auction tables early in the morning, before many people were around.  I think we did very well on that.  There were lots of very nice items, thanks to the generosity of lots of people, including some Joe's Ponders. 

One of the highlights of the day seemed to be that there was ice cream available.  I saw several people heading out of the hall with a piece of pie on a plate; and in a few minutes they returned with a big scoop of ice cream on top of it.  What could be better?  I intended to get some, but ran out of time.

At noon I took a quick break and went down to the library.  I needed to pick up a manuscript they were loaning me and also wanted to see the new plaque on the Veterans' Memorial.  We had inadvertently left two names off the list of veterans a few years ago and needed to fix that mistake.  The only way was to add a separate plaque, and I think it turned out very well.  Thanks to the Cabot Historical Society and the Oral History Committee for funding the new plaque.  This is a side view of the memorial; World Wars I and II veterans are listed on the front.  Those who served in the Civil War are on the tall monument on the village common.  As far as I know, other war veterans are not formally recognized with a monument, but we do have a list of men who served in the Revolution that are buried in our Center Cemetery.

It's been a long day - longer than I'd expected, now that I'm sitting here at my computer.  It took me a little time tonight to check e-mails, and I hadn't expected to blog, but when I took the photos off the camera, I got caught up in the day again.  

I have to say, there's nothing like coming home tired after a day like this and finding something silly in the middle of your living room.  Fred was vacuuming the dining area and had moved the high chair we use for granddaughter Tangeni - so our other "baby," Woody, decided to make it his.  He experimented with curling up in it, but he literally overflowed the seat and had no place for his feet except hanging them uncomfortably over the sides, and his rear end kept slipping over the edge, so he finally gave it up.  You can tell he has no idea why his humans are laughing at him.
