Just before we left on our mini vacation, we found some trucks on West Shore Road (we'd actually seen them working out on Route 2 a few days earlier) that seemed to be a new internet service. We stopped to ask what was happening, and were told it was, indeed, a fiber optic company and that it was a "government project." Fred thought it might be the Vermont Fiber Connect Project, so got in touch with them. Here's the replay:
Fred, those trucks are indeed working on the Fiber Connect Project, which will
allow us to connect schools, libraries and other anchor institutions throughout
Vermont to our fiber network. It will take at least another year to complete
that phase of the project. After that, we expect that businesses, smaller
organizations and even some residential cooperatives will explore ways to use
the new fiber network. For now we are fully concentrating on phase 1 but please keep in touch as we
move past the anchors next year. -Judy Eshelman, Customer Service

From Henretta Splain, for the Pope Memorial Library in Danville:
Our next inspired dinner
will be on November 4, at 5:00 pm. Dee and
Bruce Palmer have generously offered their home to us for a
PIZZA inspired dinner. Our inspiration
is a movie called I Love You to Death, a hilarious
movie starring Kevin Kline and Tracey Ullman about a womanizing
Pizza owner and his long suffering wife. So we thought a pizza
party would be in order - here's the menu:
APPETIZER: Nona's Peasant Style Minestrone
ENTREE: Assorted Handmade Artisan Pizzas
Caesar Salad
Italian Bread
DESSERT: Tiramisu
I think that's all the announcements I need to catch up on right now. I need to go out and coax Woody off the hood of the car. He has been crouched there ever since we got home a few hours ago. Jamie stopped in to feed him and said Woody was very lonesome - followed Jamie everywhere, and kept up a very loud conversation each time Jamie was here. Jamie said he felt sorry for Woody, knowing he was definitely missing his folks. We think perching on the hood of the car was a direct message that that care was not to move again, ever.
When I went out just now, I petted him and then he followed me into the house. He's having a bite to eat right now, but I expect he'll be joining me here at my desk momentarily. He'll be a little nervous for a few hours, but once we settle back into our regular routine (and his!), he'll be fine.
