We're headed for another gorgeous day - warm and sunny.  It's hard to stay inside during this nice weather, and I find myself thinking of excuses to leave my computer and go do something outdoors.  My schedule has turned a little upside down, so I'm working on the computer later at night.  I've recently had wonderful donations - some Wheeler family pictures that Charlene Cowens brought when she visited the Historical Society last Saturday; and last week I received a package in the mail from Ida (Heath) Sanborn with some programs from the Cabot Community Theater in 1991 and 1992, and a small sack from the Vermont Oatmeal Company that used to manufacture organic, home-grown rolled oats up on Cabot Plain.  That, too, would have been in the 1990's, but strangely, even though they were neighbors and located on the old Bolton farm, I have almost no information about them.  I have contacted Andy Leinoff, one of the former owners.  He still has a home where the factory was, and I'm hoping he'll have more for us. They only operated for a few years, but their oatmeal was a favorite with lots of folks.  I believe they had a hard time finding organic farmers to keep the factory supplied with oats.  I'll see what I can find out, but in the meantime, I've started a new file for them and we'll have a new display at the Historical Society next spring.

Along with the HistSoc stuff that's my usual routine, I have a call list for the up-coming meeting with the folks from Vermont Council on Rural Development on Sept. 25.  That I have to attend to during normal daytime hours, of course.  If you live in Cabot or have interests that focus on this town, you may want to mark the 25th on your calendar and attend the workshop.  Discussions will center around:  Arts, Culture & Recreation; Economic Vitality & Tourism; Agriculture, Food & Energy; the Challenge of Poverty; and School & Community.  Everyone is welcome - forums begin at 2:15 p.m. at the Willey Building and then there a free community dinner at 5:30 at the Cabot School.  For full details, go to:  www.vtrural.org.
