Prevent Underage Drinking During Prom Season
In the midst of prom season and with summer vacation
just around the corner, underage drinking is in the spotlight again.
The Vermont Health Department says at least one in three Vermont
students
in grades 8-12 have had alcohol in the last month, and one in five
binge
drank. They say home is the main source of alcohol for children--
with or
without permission. And the Health Department says it's up to
parents to
have an honest conversation with their children about the issue.
"I think it's really important that parents be really clear about
their
own family rules. And let kids know ahead of time, if this happens,
then
this will be the consequence, and be clear and consistent," said
Barbara
Cimaglio of the Vt. Health Department.
They also recommend monitoring your child for alcohol use and making
sure
you know where your child is and who they are with.
