Here's an interesting item that reached me recently. It comes from Sandy Atkins who lives on Urban Road in Cabot. Here's what she says:
Some of us in Cabot are working on a [National Endowment of the Arts] NEA Our Town planning and implementation grant to engage Cabot residents in the arts. The grant is due March 1. Ultimately, we would like to use the grant monies to begin a summer music school and festival for students and adults, based at the Cabot School Performing Arts Center (home to one of the few gamelans in the United States). Such a school and festival could bring some business to the area inns, B&Bs, restaurants and stores. One possibility is to engage the interest of some of the world-renowned musicians who arrive in Cabot for the Festivus world music festival, to be visiting musicians to teach at the summer school.
The grant amount is $25,000, but the monies must be matched by the community. We have identified quite a few possible organizations and individuals who could provide the matching monies, but nothing is sure as of yet (including even receiving the grant). We were wondering if you would be able to help us identify philanthropists or organizastions that might conribute to the match? We do not need to identify all matching contributors when we apply for the grant, but would like some possibilities on hand in case the grant is awarded.
Anyone interested in supporting this endeavor should contact Sandy Atkins at 802-279-8641, or e-mail her at: atkinsreddog@gmail.com
