Well, I've waited all day for the sun to come out strong and warm things up, but the "possible rain or snow showers in the morning" turned out to be definite snow showers all afternoon, so I spent my day sorting, filing, putting things away - and yes, even did a little dusting. I have kind of put things on hold in order to finish the window quilts, and would have finished had I not run out of velcro. I finished the two big windows in the living room, and had about six inches of velcro left. That's because I did the window in my office as a "test." If I'd stuck to doing just the ones I'd measured for, I'd have been ok, but I really wanted to try a smaller window before doing the big and more obvious ones in the rest of the house. I'll get more velcro next time I go into town. I got big rolls from an on-line wholesale supplier - 25 yards each of the two parts, hook and loop, that make velcro work so well, but I'll have to get a few yards more to finish up that last window.

It's getting dark now and it's nearly time for supper. The thermometer hasn't risen much all day, stayed in the low 30's, and I've watched the snow clouds coming down Route 15 from Walden, one batch after another, all afternoon. There has been a brisk wind out of the northwest, and there's a skimming of snow on the tarp I spread over our garden yesterday. Not a day for working outside; the few things I have left to do will wait.

Henretta just called - she lives just up the road from us - and there was a very large raccoon peering in her glass doorway a few minutes ago. They are very curious and even the dog, Cassie, barking didn't frighten it away. Henretta said she last saw it heading our direction, but I haven't seen it yet. They used to come regularly to visit our cat, Hideous, when we lived at camp. The raccoon would come up on the deck and peer in the slider and the cat would puff all up and crouch, growling and hissing from the safety of the living room. We began to think the 'coon had a crush on the cat, it came back so often.

This will be a good night to stay by the fire and listen to the wind blow, I think. I can see the clouds scudding overhead and the tops of our big firs and spruces swaying. Right now I'm going to call Marvie and order our Chef Hale dinners. In case you need it, the number to call is: 426-3281.
