We've had a little more snow today - maybe a couple inches - and it's that really dry, fluffy stuff that blows around so easily. Fred got all the driveways cleared and is ready to take off for Burlington again tomorrow - if the weather is good at both airports, Detroit and Burlington. Michael had to stay in Detroit because he couldn't get a flight out today. He'll be glad to finally reach Vermont, and his mom will be very glad to have him here for the next couple of weeks.

After Fred got his work done this morning, we went to W. Danville to leave off some tickets for Terry Powers for his Williston store, and to pick up the mail. Bill Rossi was out with his rig this morning (see picture at right), and on our way home we saw Ray Richer doing LaPrades. the banks aren't awfully high yet, but in West Danville in front of the Joe's Pond Country Store (top picture) you can see they are running out of space for snow.

While we were there we saw Burt Frye and of course the subject of the upcoming Rt. 2 project got discussed. Burt has some darn good ideas, but sounds like the engineers for this project and authorities at the state level have other ideas. It often strikes me that sometimes folks have so much knowledge they don't have much common sense. I wouldn't go as far as putting them in the category my grandfather used to frequently use, "educated fools," but it just seems to me someone like Burt cuts right to the chase and, most likely from a wealth of practical knowledge plus experience, can understand the problems and the consequences of making wrong decisions.

The folks in and around Danville are going to have to live with the disruption of this project for the next two or maybe more years, and they'd better think it through carefully and not be led down some path that turns out will hurt the town way more than necessary. Everyone is going to be impacted by the road being torn up that long. We've seen evidence of that in Montpelier when they rotary was made at the junction of Rt. 2 and 302, and now we're hearing that merchants in E. Montpelier have been adversely impacted by that change, too.

It makes one wonder, all these years later, whether there might have been a better solution right from the start.
