By the way there's a comment after the photo of Bill Rossi and the big golden retriever posted yesterday . . . scroll down a few items.
I also just checked out some of the "Headline Links" Fred has posted on home page. Some interesting stuff there, and I try to keep up with them but confess I don't always read the whole thing. I did peruse the article about hens and how long they lay eggs, etc. That one brought back some not-so-pleasant memories. We didn't have 4-H when I was a kid, but apparently my parents thought I should get some hands-on business experience, so they suggested I might like to raise some chickens as a "project" and I could keep whatever money I made. And that was how I got to know a lot about chicks, and pullets and hens and roosters, layers and broody hens, grading eggs, culling the flock and occasionally, selecting a rooster for Sunday dinner. I sort of lost my taste for chicken for a year or two until one day a big mean barred rock rooster I'd named #13, got out of the pen and attacked my three-year-old cousin, Polly. I somehow got hold of him and he was a goner almost before her screams had stopped. I never enjoyed chicken stew so much.
