We're getting a little rain today and it is chilly. Chilly-damp. The house is warm, but we may want a fire later on to ward off the dampness.

We went with Bill and Diane Rossi last night to "Alice's Table," at Jay Peak. It's something of a haul to get there - something like 68 miles and only a short stretch of throughway between Barton and Orleans. Then we struck out heading west through the Irasburg area - absolutely beautiful countryside. We had a little rain but then the sun broke through, but the mountain top was cloud covered. Here's a short slide show. To Jay

Once we got to the ski area where the restaurant is, we were amazed at how much construction is going on there. Under the guidance of Bill Stenger, Jay has become a four-season destination resort. Here's a bit of background. While there was a lot of dirt showing and unfinished building, we got a glimpse of a beautifully manicured golf course. There's also an ice arena and there will be an indoor water park - among other amenities.

The lodge is new and beautifully designed. Everything has been designed for and around skiing and family vacation pleasures, and with a real touch of class. There weren't a lot of people in the dining room while we were there, even though it was "Wednesday Special" night, but for a rainy night, mid-week, we thought it was busy. There are lots of condos and private vacation homes in the area, plus there were probably a good number of folks staying at the resort.

The food was very good, well served and we came away full and happy.

The trip home took us down Rt. 100 to Hyde Park and then home on Rt. 15. It was a tad longer that way, but fewer twists and turns, and since it was dark, we weren't concerned with the scenery. It was a very nice evening and if you're up for a bit of a journey with a very pleasant destination, we'd recommend going to Jay. Even if you don't stop at "Alice's Table," there are other nice appearing places to eat along the way, so you'd certainly find somewhere pleasant to eat, too.

For the time being, don't forget the Harvest Supper at Cabot tonight - takeouts are available. There was some confusion about the menu I posted a couple days ago - but the menu above is correct. Sometimes what is typed into blurbs I get via e-mail comes out differently when reproduced here on the blog. I try to clean 'em up before publishing, but that one got by me.
