At our meeting on Saturday, boating laws were brought up, especially operation of personal water craft (PWC). Here are a couple of web sites that will give you this information. Be sure you and any guests at your summer home know and follow the rules.

Pam Hebert got in touch this morning and we are going to have an "Aquatic Nuisance Identification" page set up on the web site so anyone who spots any kind of water plant will be able to go there and identify it. We will plan to keep any updates posted there regarding issues here at Joe's Pond or other interesting articles or news. For now, this is the site we will link to, and as soon as it's available on our web site, I'll let you know here where to look for it. Take a look - Aquatic Species in Vermont

Pam also told me about her family's BIG SWIM, which she says may become a Fourth of July tradition. I also got a report on the same event from Nancy Buttura:

We had an exciting event here yesterday at the Hebert Buttura camps. Several family members decided to swim across the lake. They all swam from Rouleau's dock to our dock, which is approximately 1/2 mile. One of the swimmers was Rachel Hebert, who lead the group, reaching our dock first. Rachel is the granddaughter of Pam and Joe Hebert and is seven years old! The most important part is that she swam on her own with no life jacket or flotation device. That is quite a feat for someone her age.

Pam told me that she was on that swim, too, along with Rachel's dad, Pam's son Chris, Pam's niece Heather and her husband Nick. That is a long swim, all the way from West Shore Road across Sunken Island (or thereabouts) to the opposite shore on Old Homestead.

Rachel got rave reviews from our granddaughter, Jo-Ann this weekend. They spent some time together, thanks to Joe and Pam. Unfortunately, Jo-Ann didn't make it for Kid's Day - somehow her dad got the time mixed up so they missed the whole thing, but Jo-Ann met some other children on the pond during the weekend, so she had a great time. She had to go back to Waterford yesterday - both mom and dad have to get back to work and Jo-Ann has swimming lessons and other things lined up at home. But they will be back on weekends when they can, I'm sure. They went to Cabot to see the parade, and then spent some time at the historical society museum where I was. It was really hot, though, and Joe's Pond was beckoning.

Speaking of hot, it's 86 degrees outside my office window right now - not in the sun. I'm happy to stay inside when we have weather like this. Not I'll go find something cool for lunch . . .
