We have a bright, sunny day with cool temps - right now about 56 on my "peeping tom" thermometer, and rising. I told you about that, I think - the "peeping tom." Fred put it up for me back in the winter, the day after he brought home two electric drills and was "fixing" everything in the house. Even now I am sometimes startled when I came into my office, thinking someone or something is looking in the window at me. It is attached to the railing on the deck where Woody often comes to sit and stare at me until I go to the back door and let him in. Anyway, the peeping tom is so handy, I've decided to leave it there.

We had just a little rain in the past 24 hours; I measured .01 in. this morning. We've had some hard winds, though and several stalks of iris are down and the tips of some of my lupines are broken off, most just below where the flowers start. At first I thought it was Woody, but I guess the wind is a more likely culprit. My white peonies are out, but the red ones always are a little later. There's a profusion of iris and lupines, though. I took this picture this morning from the steps leading from our driveway. Things are particularly vivid and fresh after the rain.

Woody was outside while I was working in the garden yesterday and got very frisky when I tossed a little water at him. In an instant he was 20 feet up a small oak tree in the back yard. Once up there, he began to meow and complain. Every time he tried to turn around or do anything except go further up the trunk, the branches bent dangerously under his 14 pounds. He continued to yell for help, but I ignored him except to chide him for being so foolish. As soon as I finished my work and went inside, he shut up and concentrated on getting down out of the tree, which of course he managed perfectly, as I knew he would. He's very agile, but sometimes clumsy, too. I remember being surprised to learn that cats have a close genetic connection to reptiles or snakes. I found this site that gives an interesting history of cats: History of Cats

Different subject - there is another camp for sale on Joe's Pond. Check it out on the "Camps for Sale" page.

This poster was sent to me by Jen Persons this morning. Be sure to remember the festivities going on in Cabot on the 4th of July. It's always a really fun day - the parade is long and lively - seems like all of Cabot gets out there to either be in it or to watch. I'll be working at the historical society building, so I get to see the parade up close, sometimes from the second story window which is more like a bird's eye view.

I'm finishing the index for a book of newspaper clippings spanning from about 1945 to the present. I have lots more that need to be filed, but have to index what I have to help eliminate too many duplications. The whole process is getting more complicated by the day. Every time I go into my computer files, I find something I think I may have overlooked, or I open an envelope or file and find treasures I didn't know were waiting there for me. It will be nice when I get to the point all the old stuff is done and I can then just deal with whatever new that comes to us.

And so, back to work!
