We've enjoyed a very nice day with lots of sunshine and comfortable temperatures. Tomorrow is predicted to be quite different - rain is coming in tonight and the temperature will drop like a rock. By the weekend - wait for it! - possible SNOW FLURRIES. Just in time for Mothers' Day.
We took a short walk this afternoon and checked the water level. It's staying about where it should be, in spite of fairly heavy rain yesterday. There wasn't much activity on the pond today, but Fred got the picture above. It must have been very nice on the water. I have to tell you, the black flies are here and making life interesting. I don't think they bother when you are out on the water, but everywhere else, watch out. It's okay unless you stop moving. We found that out when we met Jamie coming home from work. We talked with him for a few minutes and the pesky flies found us right away. I had some herbal repellent called "crocodile!" that we got last year at Hastings Store in West Danville. It's really great - smells really good and I think it must be harmless because it has just really good stuff in it like rosemary, thyme, peppermint and castor oil. The good news is that it does the trick.
The wild cherry tree at the head of Randall's driveway is in full bloom. That smells good, too. It's really pretty. We have on that sprung up beside our deck, and it has almost bloomed, but not quite yet. It's getting to be a pretty big tree and shades the deck nicely in the early morning, so I'm hoping we can leave it there for a few more years. If it gets too big, it will have to be cut, but for now it is very useful.
Deb Stresing was at our house the other day and remarked that all the trees around our deck must cut off our view, but I told her we don't mind in the summer, it's sort of like being in a tree house and after the leaves are off in the fall, our view is back.
Have you noticed that recent news stories pertaining to our area are posted on home page? Fred keeps current links up so you can read some of what's in our local newspapers or on TV. And how about that video of the bear that Evelyn sent!? I think the animals around here know there's a studio on Loon Cove and they go there just to get their pictures taken. Thanks, Evelyn, for sharing the video.
