There is sad news about a former Joe's Pond member. Janet Bird, widow of Ed Bird, passed away on Saturday, November 6 at her home in Danville. The Birds lived at Joe's Pond for several years and many of you will remember them, I'm sure. A memorial service was held for Janet yesterday, November 13. She leaves a son, Dale Bird, two daughters, Darcia Bird and Deborah Peck, all of Danville, and several grandchildren and great grandchildren. Ed Bird passed away in 2001. We extend deepest sympathy to Janet's family. She was a lovely lady and will be missed.

We just learned of the sale of Walker Motors Ford at the intersection of US2 and 302 in Montpelier. Joe's Pond member, Don Walker, has been part of that dealership for over 50 years, and his son, Wade, is present owner. This is, indeed, the end of an era. Here is the article that ran this morning in the Times Argus: www.timesargus.com

A change such as this is never easy, in spite of whatever financial sense it makes, and I'm sure the Walkers are sad to see the end of their involvement selling Fords in the area. Walker Motors has maintained a fine reputation and had many loyal customers for many years. I'm sure the new owners will carry on the fine tradition and high standards the Walker family has set. We wish both the Walkers and the new owners well.
