It's funny how, just when I think there's nothing to write on the blog about, I get some interesting stuff. I guess you may have heard there's a new fun thing starting in Cabot - a Pumpkin Festival coming right up on Saturday, October 3. There will be a carving contest, games, bake sale, wagon rides, pie contest, hot food available and entertainment. It's all for the benefit of the Parent Teacher School Organization (PTSO) that helps fund things such as student field trips, special training, and upgrades of playground equipment.
On Sunday it's Danville's Autumn on the Green event from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. This is almost another fair event - lots going on for all ages, good food, crafts, lots to do.
Then, on October 17, there's the Cabot Apple Pie Festival - again, lots to do and see, many crafters, the pie contest, prizes displays, great food - and the good news is, it doesn't matter what the weather is because it's all inside. There's a silent auction, too, and that usually has some really nice items. In fact, Marvey Domey sent me an e-mail asking for donations for the auction. Here's what she said:
Articles are needed for the Silent Auction to benefit the Historical Society the day of the Apple Festival, October 17.
Old and antique items are much appreciated but we accept whatever you have. If there are things that should have a minimum bid, please indicate on your donation. The last bids will be accepted at 2:30 PM. If you are high bidder the article must be picked up within 24 hours or the second bidder will be notified.
You can give Marvey a call at 802-426-3281 if you have something you could donate for the auction. You'll see lots more information about the Apple Pie Festival, and I hope you'll stop by the Cabot gymnasium on the 17th. It's our only big fund raising event for the Historical Society, and important to our very existence. Our regular workers are all volunteers, but we have on-going expenses for materials, insurance and electricity, and there's always maintenance to be done. We don't have any other sources of revenue, so we have to get out there and work to make this one event fun and interesting so people will enjoy and keep coming back.
Liz Randall (W. Shore Rd.) sent this picture taken in Kirby, Vermont. A nephew of John and Liz's raises this breed up there in Kirby. I'm not sure how large his herd is, but these are not the only cows - I just picked one of the photos that shows off these girls best. Liz wrote:
This is a picture of Randall Lineback cattle from South Kirby Vermont. All of the linebacks are bred and due next spring. The Randall Lineback is the HERITAGE BREED in the State of Vermont. Here is a website on the history of the cows...www.randalllineback.com
