A section of dock has been rescued by Ray Rouleau on W. Shore Rd. Ray said it is about 10 ft. long and 3 ft. wide - no legs or anything attached. If you're missing a section of dock or whatever, you'll find it at Ray's.
I had a message from Tom Morgan regarding the round barn picture. He noticed what looks to be quarries in the background and that there are quarries showing in the new background pic on the blog masthead. That would be Woodbury quarries, and it does help me - sort of. I'm going to contact one of the Menard boys to find out if there was a round barn in their area. That would be just south of Cabot Plain. It might have been on Whittier Hill, but it's hard to tell. Thanks to Tom. I'll see what I can find out.
We're headed for some rainy weather tomorrow. I was just walking on our lower lawn and it's very wet on our hillside. I had to pick my way carefully, and anywhere I wanted to go in the wooded area is very soggy. I gave up. Between getting wet feet and being pestered by black flies, it wasn't worth the effort. Next time I'll wear boots and insect repellent! The wild cherry trees are blooming, though, and that's always nice to see. I also found a clump of Johnny-jump-ups in the middle of the lawn. I have no idea how they got there, but I'll transplant them. I didn't have many Mayflowers this year, but the lilies-of-the-valley are very healthy.
Fred has just about finished spading our garden spot, and will be in for supper, so I must get going. We're going to try a few vegetables this year. The space under where our woodpile was last year is relatively free of weeds and easy spading, so rather than reseed it to grass, I thought why not plant a few vegetables?! Lots of work, but rewarding, if successful. I imagine the deer and other wild things will love having it there . . .
You may want to save the date of June 13th - the Fourth Annual "Run the Ridges" road race will be held in Cabot on that date. For full information, go to our "Events" page under JPA on the main menu, home page. You can register on line at www.active.com. Get in touch with sue freeburn, 802-563-3155 for more information. Walkers start at 8:30 a.m., runners at 9:30 a.m.
