Our weather has changed rapidly over the last 24 hours. Today we have temperatures in the 30's and rain. The temperature seems to be heading downward, so there may be icy conditions later in the day. And later this week more snow. We aren't going to lose all our snow here in the mountains, but I expect in Barre and St. Johnsbury where they didn't have the snow cover we have, there will be bare ground.

I have been busy this morning tending to our cat, Woody. When it's bitter cold like the last few days, he sleeps all day and wants to rumble in the evenings, racing through the house and pestering to go into the garage but wants back in within a few minutes. He spend lots of time gazing longingly out the windows, especially after dark when I suppose he imagines all sorts of creatures moving about out of his reach. Today he is as excited as a child, delighted to get outside in spite of the rain. He has never seemed to mind being wet - in fact, we're pretty sure he enjoys getting soaking wet if for no other reason than when he comes in, either Fred or I will dry him off with a paper towel - a ritual he obviously enjoys, and very often he will grab a bite to eat and immediately go back outside and the getting wet and rubbed down process continues as long as we allow.

Today he was outside a long time before coming to my office window, bedraggled and wide-eyed, tapping with his paw on the window from his perch on the deck railing. I opened the window to let him in, and wiped him down. He went right back out. This has gone one several times, but I think he's beginning to tire of the game and will crash, probably high up on one of the kitchen cabinets (he has a bed up there) or maybe in my chair in the living room. We often spot him crouched in the rain near a tree or tuft of grass, patiently waiting for a mole to appear. At night, especially when he hasn't been able to go out much all day, he likes to hop into the bath tub and play in a little water. We turn the faucet on so it will just drizzle and he seems to get a kick out of biting it and flipping drops off his head.

I guess you can tell there isn't much to write about today. If we believe no news is good news, that's fine, but I'm sorry I don't have anything exciting or very interesting to share with you. However, the day isn't over, and if something comes in, I'll be sure to let you know.

Catching Up

As our lovely autumn days begin to turn a bit chill and dreary - the transition from October to November is like that  - I want to share so...
