I walked the perimeter of our lawn this morning to see what there might be for foliage pictures. There was a heavy dew last night and when I was out around 7:30, there was still fog, but the sun was breaking through. By the time I came in, the sun was getting very warm and the fog was dissipating.

You can see there is quite a bit of color already. Some of the maples have individual branches that have turned while other limbs are still green. One of several horse chestnut trees has not only started to turn (bel
ow right), the leaves have begun to drop. It is in a fairly moist area that was very wet most of the summer, so that may account for it. One of my favorite spots is the cedar grove at the far end of our lawn. It is very close to the road, but thick enough so, unless someone is looking directly into the woods, they usually aren't aware that anyone is there. The cedar trees are intermingled with large spruces and there are quite large rocks where I can "sit a spell" and watch the traffic go by. I didn't linger long this morning, though. To stop was to invite the mosquitoes to find me.

By the way, you'll find several cottages listed on our "For Sale" pages. I don't recall there ever being this many cottages for sale on Joe's Pond all at one time. Perhaps it's just a kind of changing of the guard, and I know folks sometimes need to change their life style, and there are a variety of reasons to do that. Only one of those we have listed so far is a year-around home, and all are on main roads.

Here are some items that may be of interest to some of you. There are two concerts coming up in Cabot.

Also, the Osher LifeLong Learning Institute has posted their fall courses. This link will take you to that web site.

Danville residents can take their scrap metal, old batteries, fluorescent bulbs, tires and other bulky or toxic items to the Town Wood Dump on Bruce Badger Memorial Highway (the road to North Danville) on Saturday, Sept. 6, from 9 a.m. to noon. There will be a charge for some items.
