MORE SNOW!

It has snowed lightly most of the day. Hardly a hint of the sun although there were a few bright moments - but the snow continued to sprinkle down on us. Everything is really beautiful with the clean fresh snow covering the trees. Every morning there are fresh tracks on our lawn where the deer have sauntered by. Sometimes I wonder at how close they will come to the house. Our cat, Woody, keeps an eye on things from his perch in the living room window. Not much is moving during t
he daytime now, though. A squirrel or two and chickadees, but whatever is going on outside, Woody is unimpressed and remains inside where it's warm.

I snapped this picture of Fred clearing the latest batch of snow off the
deck tonight. He shovels it every day, and every day there seems to be about another foot of snow to take off. Still, he looks pretty happy, don't you think? If this keeps up, he may not be quite as accepting by spring, though. Son, Jamie, has a much bigger deck than we, so he sometimes uses a small snowblower to clear it. Bill, who's living at camp, told me a friend has offered a small snowblower to him for cleaning the snow off the decks there. I think he'd better take him up on the offer - from the start of things, this could be a deep-snow winter. Middle son, Bob, is delighted with the snow. He doesn't have a deck on his house in St. Johnsbury, so while his brothers and Fred are clearing away the snow here at Joe's Pond, he's off skiing at Jay Peak. He's been three times so far this year. He's chortling over the great conditions building. Burke Mountain opens this weekend. Winter has started off with a bang.
