It's here and it's sticking - at least for now.  We had a blustery day yesterday - lots of wind and snow and cold.  I took this picture
late yesterday afternoon when the wind was blowing snow off the trees so it looked like a blizzard sometimes.  This morning the trees are white and heavy with very wet snow, but it is melting a little when the sun comes out.  Actually, although it was very sunny early this morning, now it's gloomy again.

Granddaughter Tangeni spent the day with us yesterday.  She had a busy day keeping track of Woody and making tracks in the snow on the deck.  She also had a great time decorating Grandpa Fred with stickers.  Shortly after lunch, she crashed in Grandpa's chair while watching "Polar Express."  Woody and I decided to take advantage of her down time and caught a few winks, too, and Grandpa got a little time on his computer. We finished watching the movie after her long nap.

Woody mostly seems to enjoy all the attention he gets from his biggest little fan.  He submitted to being brushed several times during the day.  Tangeni told Grandpa, "He's very soft and he has a beautiful tail."  He's surprisingly tolerant.  At any time during the day he could have jumped up on his perch on top of the kitchen cabinets, or found some quiet time in the basement, but he casually strolled from room to room with his three-year-old companion chattering and petting him as they explored spaces under beds, tables and behind chairs.  We explained he must not be bothered when he's "having a snack," and Tangeni was good about that.  She enjoyed watching him dipping his paw in his water dish in the bathtub when getting a drink, but she didn't disturb him; she did have long quiet "conversations" with him, which he didn't seem to mind.  At one point during the movie, she asked me to turn down the sound because "it hurts Woody's ears."  Tangeni has a very tiny voice and normally speaks in almost a whisper, but stand back when she cries!  She has a very loud, from-the-gut bawl that reminds me of her Uncle Bob when he was her age.  The difference is that she lets it out right away while Bob would open his mouth and his face would get red but no sound would come out for a few moments, and then he'd explode bawling  and the tears would flow.  That kind of crying gets immediate attention, believe me.

Here are some photos of a Cabot mill I'd like someone to identify.  They were taken about 1940.  If anyone has an idea - and I know there isn't much to go on - please let me know - janebrown@fairpoint.net, or comment here.  Thanks for any thoughts you may have.

Click on the images to enlarge them.  It could be either Utley's Mill or Clark's Mill.  I'm not familiar enough with either of them to be able to even guess, but hopefully someone will recognize them.  They were donated by Charlene Rollins Cowens, whose mother was a Wheeler from Cabot.  Charlene grew up in West Danville, I believe, and these pictures were with some others she donated for us to use in the West Danville history project.  I am delighted to get them for the Cabot Historical Society collection, but it would be very nice to be able to identify them.

Spring Thoughts and Trials

I heard the first frogs of the season on Tuesday. I was working on getting my porch set up ready for summer weather and realized there were...
