Clarification

There was some confusion about the tee-shirts that were mentioned in a recent post. The logo on the shirts has been changed by the designer. "Danville" has been removed but "Vermont" stays. So the logo is "Joe's Pond Vermont". Check them out HERE

If you would like to have one of these really nice looking shirts to show your loyalty, love, and  appreciation of Joe's Pond, this is a good opportunity to grab one. It is my understanding that pricing may be lowered if more than 50 are sold. This is not a fund-raiser, but a nice way of acknowledging Joe's Pond.

Just a note about our weather. We got some much-needed rain on Sunday. This morning I measured .55 in. Not really enough to raise the level of my pond much, but it certainly helped to moisten crops at least a little. That said, today has been pretty hot and dry. I'm showing 71.1 degrees in the shade right now, and I don't think it got much below 60 during the night. I've kept the house closed most of the afternoon, and it's comfortable. The sun is behind the trees now and I have opened the house up. Thor is on the porch and I'm headed there shortly.

Saturday's Pig Roast at the JPA pavilion was a great feed, as always. The weather cooperated perfectly and there was a nice crowd. Lots of new faces in the group - and that's always good. Also saw lots of friends and was able to catch up with some I haven't seen at meetings. It's always interesting and fun at these JPA events.

In conversation with a friend yesterday I learned that there has been some vandalism at the Foster Covered Bridge across from the Cabot Plains Cemetery. Damage was done to the fencing near the bridge, and in spite of signs asking that people not drive on the fields surrounding the bridge and adjacent pond, the newly cut hayfield was torn up by people driving on it. There have been reports of people hanging out there drinking, revving motors, doing wheelies, etc., late into the night.

Above is a drone image of the bridge with autumn colors that I found on the internet.

That is a beautiful, normally tranquil spot where for many years, people have come to visit the little cemetery or watch sunsets over Mt. Mansfield and Camel's Hump. There have been beautiful weddings held at the covered bridge, family picnics, Fall Foliage gatherings - all with permission and respect for the land owners and the environment. Many Joe's Pond folks love to go there on a warm summer evening and watch the sun go down. I took this picture some years ago on my way home from a meeting - it was so beautiful, I stopped to watch, even though I've seen it hundreds of times. I totally understand why people go there to sit quietly and watch the day depart. That's why it is sad when people damage property, disturb neighbors, and make nuisances of themselves. It is likely the owners will fence it off and nobody will have access, and all because a few people have no respect for others and no appreciation of our beautiful surroundings. So sad.

On a happier note, my kitty house guest is behaving very well except occasionally when he decides to "help" me when I'm using my computer. He loves to loll on the mouse pad, and he's so long and limp, it's nearly impossible to move him - as soon as I try to push him over to the other side of my desk where there is plenty of room for him to lie down, he goes limp and turns into a blog of heavy black fur draped over my hand and the mouse, paws extended onto the keyboard where all sorts of unwanted characters begin to appear on whatever I'm doing. (See photo.) Not at all cool, Thor! Most of the time he's curled up either on the porch or in a chair in the living room - favorite spots when there's no lap or desk available.

Enjoy!
