Ice Depth Update

I have a report from my fisherman friend, Bob Mackay, who had just come in from fishing.Bob says: "Just came off the ice, about 38 inches, no more water pockets, and ice is very soft from top to bottom."

He mentioned that if we have another really cold spell, that could change things some. I'm thinking the ice is in melting mode now and spring may really be here!

I haven't heard that Larry has put the flag out and attached the clock, but I'm sure that will happen very soon. We are going to have some pretty nice weather for the rest of this week with no really deep cold snaps in the immediate future - just a few snow flurries from time to time, which is pretty typical for this time of year. Still, it takes time for 38 inches of ice to melt, so it looks like there's no danger of the flag going down before April 1 when your tickets have to be in.

A note here - recently a couple of people have not received the email notices that I send to those who have requested notification.. I have been sending a link to the blog, and apparently something about that alerts certain anti-virus blockers that it may be spam. I will try sending notices a little differently to see if that will work. In the meantime, if you suddenly aren't getting my emails with blog postings, check your spam file.

A brief weather report - we woke up to everything covered with a thin coating of fresh snow this morning. It was gone by 9 o'clock or so and it's been beautifully sunny all day. There is a bit of wind, but the temperature was in the 40s and that's not bad for mid-March! I have lots of bare patches around my house, but my pond is still completely frozen except for a small area where water comes into the pond and another where the drain is and water is being released. Everything is working perfectly. Still lots of snow in the woods here, though. Yesterday when I was in Danville, I noticed they have a lot less snow than we do at Joe's Pond and I thought I detected a hint of green on bare fields and lawns down there - but maybe that was because it was St. Patrick's Day!
