Flooding Update

The rain doesn't stop. Yesterday we had off and on showers all day and today there is more of the same, although I think the showers probably (hopefully) won't be as intense. Work crews throughout the area are trying to get roads and driveways put back in shape, but it will take a few days and the continued wet weather isn't helping matters.

Here is a report of road closures in Danville - including a washout on the rail trail:

DANVILLE CONDITIONS & CLOSURES:
Roy Road, bridge washed out (should be open tomorrow);
Joes Brook Road, one lane to be open today (access via Barnet)
Cormier, one lane to be open today (access in and out at both ends)
Water Andric closed debris in road;
Bruce Badger and North Danville Roads, cones in place for safety (future repairs);
Young Farm Road passable but with gully;
Rail Trail wash out between Walden Hill Road and Route 2 in West Danville

The water level at Joe's Pond is beginning to go down, so keep an eye on things that may get caught on something - boats may not settle correctly and get hung up on docks, or docks may be out of alignment with supports, etc.

The Cassella trash container that was hung up on the waterfront at the Dimick camp (1809 W Shore Rd) has been moved to the roadside so that Cassella can pick it up if the owner doesn't come by for it.

Things are getting sorted out. As people return to the pond this weekend, there may be more "lost and found" items posted here, so keep an eye on the blog!

I
've had a request to post photos of previous flooding events at Joe's Pond, so here are a few!

 Moving floating islands back to the wetlands by Channel Drive after tropical storm "Irene" in August,  2011, and damage on Sandy Beach Road. Below, a washout at the culvert at Sandy Beach Road in April, 2011. Not a good year!

There has been high water nearly every spring, sometimes damaging, when there are large pieces of ice moving in the water. The take-away is: High water and flooding is not new at Joe's Pond.
