The recent Cabot Chronicle has notice about the Joe's Pond fireworks scheduled for July 3 (rain date is July 5). The fireworks will not be set off from the usual spot this year. Our Joe's Pond Association president, Joe Hebert, sent this correction:

This morning I woke up thinking we were in for another cool, damp day. Imagine my surprise when I looked at the thermometer and realized that outside was several degrees warmer than inside my house! I had left the heat pump set at 70 degrees last night, and when I looked at the outdoor thermometer, it was already at 74 degrees. The windows and doors are all open and I'm enjoying the warm, if pretty darned soupy fresh air circulating through the house. We haven't had much sun, but there are a few patches of blue sky - and it's ok not to bake under a hot sun. The warm air is nice.
We had a lot of rain yesterday. I measured 1.10 inches this morning in my collection tube. I think we will probably get showers later today - possibly thunder storms - but for the time being, it's pretty nice.
We had a very nice take-out dinner last night from the West Danville church. Roast pork really hit the spot on a chilly, rainy evening. Jamie and Marie came down and joined Diane Rossi and me at my house. It was very nice. Diane picked up the dinners for us, and all I had to do was set the table! We all enjoy meals like that - nobody has to cook and cleanup is easy. No messy pots and pans - just a few plates for the dishwasher and food cartons for recycling. The meal was generous, and I still have a very large piece of blueberry pie waiting for me. I was simply too stuffed for dessert last night.
Cabot has had to do more repairs on their roads after last week's heavy rain. It's hard to keep up with the damage the weather is doing. Some of the work from last years July flooding has to be redone, but our road crew is working hard to keep roads open. Here is a report from Sid Griggs, Road Foreman:
Coits pond is almost all back to full capacity - it just
needs a top coat of gravel on it. The sharp corner past the pond is still one
lane, cones are up and hopefully they don't get thrown over the bank like the
ones in Houston Hill. We will be there Monday to finish up, but the road will
stay open for this project.
South Walden Road was opened to all traffic this afternoon per Walden's road
foreman!
Enjoy the weekend everyone! Sid Griggs
And the work on Route 2 continues - they seem not to be challenge by the weather except that it is difficult to work in pouring rain at times, but progress is being made. However, delays are common. Here is the latest report:

Our first Sunfish Sailboat Race of the season is scheduled for today at 1 p.m., weather permitting. The wind seems to be strong today, but not very consistent. It may be a challenging day to sail, but the races are always interesting. We hope the weather holds off so the race can happen. With the possibility of thunderstorms later today, I'm sure the race officials are watching closely.
Enjoy your day, watch the weather, and stay safe! Stay off the water if there are thunderstorm warnings!
