Music on the waterfront is always a lot of fun, so pack your coolers, friends and family, get on the party barge and enjoy! This type of event was rare at Joe's Pond until the recent pandemic when most were uncomfortable in large groups of people. It turned out to be quite popular, and there have been several of these lakeside concerts each summer. Thanks to Mike and Norma Segale for hosting this fun summer event.

Just a short bear story that happened yesterday. I had an appointment in Berlin for my eyes, and as usual, because I cannot see well enough to drive after I get the shots (one in each eye) for AMD, Jamie drove for me. While we were gone, Jamie got an urgent message from Marie saying their cat, "Joe" was in a standoff with a very large bear in their driveway! I got the full story this morning. Apparently, Marie looked out a window and saw Joe puffed up twice his size, advancing on the bear. The bear stood its ground, apparently undecided about what to do with the big yellow fur-ball  hissing at him. Marie went onto the deck and clapped her hands and shouted at the bear until it finally slowly turned away and went back into the woods. She said she was finally able to coax Joe back inside with kitty treats. He was probably very proud that he'd protected his domain.

I don't know what might have happened if Marie hadn't been there to scare the bear off. I'm pretty sure the bear would not tolerate being attacked by a cat and it could have ended very badly for the Joe. Whether he will avoid another confrontation and stay clear of inquisitive bears in the future is a good question.

Jamie's consoling comment to Marie when he got home was, "I know you must have been really upset and concerned for that poor bear." Fortunately, Marie "gets" Jamie's humor and she got a good laugh.

Don't forget - the Annual Meeting of the Joe's Pond Association is this Saturday, July 1, 2023, 10 a.m. at the JPA pavilion. Come be a part of the Joe's Pond Community. We want to hear from you. Your opinions are important in our discussions as issues are resolved and voted upon.

Music on the lake very popular on Woodbury Lake. All through summer 5-6 camps host a band and all manner of boats, kyacks, and pontoon boats gather to hear them. Associations sets mony aside for them and hat passed around for tips.
No charge but performers come back year after year.
