Loon Update!

Good Morning Everyone! I have good news - we have at least one chick hatched by the loon pair residing at the middle pond.Susan Yesalonia let me know late yesterday, and she said she suspects there may be another chick within a day or so. I'm sure she will let us know if a second chick appears. She said the large white gannet is still visiting in the middle pond. It seems to have found Joe's Pond a great place to rest and restore, not unlike a lot of humans!

Our second loon family in the third (big) pond, hasn't produce a chick yet, but Gretchen Farnsworth will let me know as soon as that happens. Thanks to both Susan and Gretchen for keeping watch for us!

If you haven't reserved your tickets for the ham & mac 'n cheese dinner on Saturday, better give Peter Crosby a call (802-535-4949) now. They plan for a limited number of guests, and you don't want to be left out of our first social gathering of the season. These dinners are always fun, and the cocktail hour that starts around 5 o'clock lets us meet and chat with old friends and make new ones. Everyone is welcome, whether you are a JPA member or not, so gather family and/or friends together and come. Bring your own "special" beverages, and an appetizer to share is always welcome, but not necessary as there will be lots of amazing choices - we have some very creative and fine cooks/party planners in our midst. The h'ordeuvres are always plentiful and fun to sample. There will be lemonade or other non-alcoholic drinks available, so bring the kids and let them enjoy the playground while the adults enjoy social hour. If you have questions, get in touch with Peter - or just about any JPA member. Most of us have been going to these events for years, and we still enjoy them! See you there!

This photo was taken at a 2013 gathering. Our pavilion dining area is a lot nicer than the wooden picnic tables out in the open like we had not too many years ago! Those were good times, too! But people who wore shorts did so at their own risk - the splinters on those wooden benches were particularly attracted to bare skin or thin fabrics. Practiced attendees NEVER tried to slide along one of those benches! The photo at the left is of Bill Dimick (in the foreground with a cigar; grandfather to my kids) at a business meeting probably sometime in the late 1940s or early 1950s. I don't know who the others in the photo are. These were all obviously tough old guys who were used to lounging on those tables and benches. Note what looks like a Schaefer's beer can on the table behind Bill.

Have a great day, and enjoy the sun AND the rain - we needed it! I measured 1.26 inches this morning. My previously low pond in the back yard is now full to capacity once again!
