For those of you interested in the present Route 2 project, here is a video made by Kingdom Access TV of a recent informational meeting. Route 2 Project video.
We all need to make allowance for some delays going in either as we come out of West Shore Drive - as there has been work going on along the stretch towards West Danville and towards Marshfield. I have been lucky any time I've gone either direction and not had long delays, but it's good to leave 15 min. early in order to not be late for appointments.
Our weather has been gloomy and chilly today, but we really need the rain. We actually haven't had much yet. I think there may be more showers tonight. Right now the air is very still and my thermometer is reading 50.6F, but most of the day we've had a strong wind mostly from the north, and it was quite chilly. The prediction for Memorial Day weekend looks great - sunny, warm, and perfect for getting outside for parades, cookouts, picnics, or whatever. The water is still very cold, so if you go out on the water, be sure you have your life preserver - and be careful.
Joe's Pond folks - our May meeting is Saturday morning at the pavilion, 10 a.m. This should be a very interesting meeting. It's always great to see everyone after a long winter. People back from the south usually show up in shorts, sporting beautiful tans, and sometimes, even though they are under-dressed for the weather, they bravely stay the course for the full meeting, in spite of icy-cold chairs, unheated space, and occasional snowflakes in the air; but this year I think it will definitely be a "short" kind of day, and if the wind isn't too chilly coming off the water, we should be very comfortable in the pavilion.
Come to the meeting prepared to pay your dues ($40/yr.) if you haven't already done so, pick up your new JPA Directory, and also pick up a stock of Ice-Out Contest tickets to sell during the summer. In years past, I've given paid tickets to visitors and sometimes workmen. People love getting the tickets, and at $1 each, it's a great way to bring a smile to someone's face - or start a conversation. I tuck them into cards sometimes, too, and they are a fun "favor" at weddings or other gatherings. Get your kids involved - it's great fun.
A reminder - please give the loons plenty of space when you spot them either in the water or especially where they are nesting. Once the chicks are hatched, it's very important not to get close to them - the chicks may not be able to get out of the way of speeding boats or water-skiers, so best to keep a sharp eye out for them and stay far away. Remind visitors who may not be familiar with loons or aware we have loon families here at Joe's Pond.
By the way, you don't have to be a member of Joe's Pond Association to attend the meeting. If you have a special interest, or just want to meet some of your neighbors, we'll be happy to see you, and there's coffee and donuts!
