I hadn't planned on blogging today because there really hasn't been much news. The main topic - the weather - is still dark, cold and gloomy, so the less said about that the better. I measured almost a full inch of rain (.95 in.) this morning, and we've had pretty steady rain all day today. It has been gentle, so I'm hoping it will sink into the ground to get things growing, but with the temperature in the 30s this morning, progress is slow. We're headed in the right direction, though!
My friend, Mary Whitcomb, sent these photos to me this afternoon, and I wanted to share them with you. I do enjoy Mary's photographs. I'm not sure how they will display for you - I've spent too much time fighting to get logical spacing around them, but Blogger isn't always cooperative, so here they are, and that's the best I can do.

Birds are right up there with flowers for bringing cheer to gloomy days! The little Junko having his morning bath in a puddle made me smile, and the Purple Finch is gorgeous. I hadn't seen a Towhee before - or if I did, I didn't recognize it. I saw some bird with a flash of yellow in one of my trees today, but it didn't stay long enough for me to figure out what it was. They remind us of how to be joyful - they go about their work of finding food and nesting materials, all the while singing happily.
Now I'm going to head for the kitchen and put together something to eat. I will turn on CNN for the news, and it's unlikely there will be anything to sing about; but it's important to know what's going on in the world, even when it's awful. I will find a Hallmark movie after a little of that. Hallmark movies are the perfect remedy for a dose of awful.
