This was not a wonderful Christmas weekend for some in our community. Raymon Bothfeld, son of Walter "Skip" Bothfeld who many of us know for their delicious turkeys raised at "Dunstable Farms" in Cabot, was badly hurt on Friday in an accident involving a farm tractor. He has a long way to go to recover - weeks in hospital and therapy - before he will be able to return to work at the farm. We can only imagine the pressure on his family (he has two children), and the business, not to mention the enormous financial burden he will face. To help, community members have set up a Go-Fund-Me account for him. Anything amount you can give will be helpful. Click this LINK to give. The community has also formed a meal chain for the family. Even a small donation to either effort will help.
The Bothfeld family has been in Cabot since about 1936, and Raymon is the fourth generation to carry on the farm. The family has been known over the years for their service to the community. Raymon's great grandfather, Theodore, served on the school board for many years; the family supported dinners, a variety of organizations, and has donated literally hundreds of turkeys for dinners put on by organizations. Each generation has donated their time and farm produce on behalf of their community. Raymon's father, "Skip," has served in the Cabot Fire Department for many years, a good share of them as fire chief. Raymon's mother, Rose, has been active in the church for years and is seemingly tireless helping at community events. Now it is time for payback.
Also this holiday weekend, the David Carpenter house on Ducharme Road was gutted by fire. I don't have details on that, but there will be community support as needed, I'm certain.
