Bits and Pieces

Another beautiful, too-nice-to-be-November day, and more to come through this weekend, according to the forecast. I wish I hadn't wrapped up my porch so soon! I did get to sit out by my NOW FULL pond for a while this afternoon, and enjoyed the sights and sounds around me while munching on an apple from Burtt's Orchard. I believe they closed on the 31st. I was going to pick up doughnuts once more for the freezer, but after seeing the scale the other day, I decided I really don't need those extra calories.

I read in the Caledonian Record this morning that the rail-trail (LVRT) is running behind schedule and won't be finished until January, 2023. Apparently there have been unusual delays in getting some materials. However, it should be fully operational for snow machines by perhaps February, and certainly for bikes and hikers by spring. I saw in the Cabot Chronicle that there is going to be an effort to connect a trail from Cabot to the LVRT. I'm not sure where that will be, but it will be nice to add to the network of trails.

I heard today that the Danville Health Center is getting back to their newly enlarged and improved home site in Danville this weekend. I'm sure patients and staff will be happy to be back there. The facility in St. J. was fine, but it's very nice to have them close by, in Danville.

I'm hearing rumors about plans for the Fourth of July, but it's too early to make any promises. I'm sure there will be a coordinated effort to make the holiday special.

I had to go to St. Johnsbury today and found some serious road work going on at the Danville end of West Shore Road. It looks like they are making the ditch deeper, more like what Cabot has done. I'm sure that is needed, but I really wish they could find a way to fix the flat and then the  apron going onto Route 2. The flat is always muddy and full of potholes; the apron is rough and visibility for traffic coming from West Danville is poor. Vehicles are usually traveling too fast through there and there isn't much time to make it onto the highway - especially if it's a little slippery. It would be nice if that stretch of West Shore Road could be moved west a few rods, and elevated so it would stay dry in the spring and level with Route 2 so getting on or off would not be as dangerous. Perhaps, someday.

In the meantime, don't forget to turn your clocks back Saturday night; and if you haven't already voted, do so next Tuesday. Enjoy the summer-like temperatures this weekend if you are here - if you are someplace other than Vermont, I hope you have a great weekend, as well! Be safe and stay healthy.
