And More Snow in the Mountains

This morning I measured 6.5 in. of new snow and during the day we've collected a bit more. It has been warmish again and the snow is very wet and heavy. The temperature is a little lower tonight - around 27 degrees. We've had a bit of wind today and this evening the lights flickered a few times, but we didn't lose power. We have been fortunate - power was out for a while in some southern parts of the state.

This was the view from my office window today. The woods is beautiful with the snow on the trees. However, there were no animal tracks and all was very quiet. The photo below is looking towards the pond (you can see part of the north shore a little left of center).

I was reading in the Caledonian Record this weekend about the plans forming to utilize the large vacant space at the Green Mountain Mall in St. Johnsbury. We have lost several stores at the mall, among them J. C. Penny that will be closing its doors in the spring. That is a huge loss for the community. However, Catamount Arts and the mall owner, Mark Healy, plan to utilize space vacated by Sears, Fashion Bug, and Habitat for Humanity to create an "ArtPort," a venue for performance space for live shows, art exhibitions, and a variety of entertainment possibilities. Right now the space is literally wide open to possibilities. The walls between stores are gone and it looks like an empty airport hangar. There are seemingly limitless ways the space can be used, and Catamount officials are excited to begin adapting it for community use and entertainment. COVID has changed how programs at their present location on Eastern Avenue were presented, but they adapted and have managed to be available in different ways for the community. This new space gives them over 24,000 square feet of space for exciting possibilities.

When I heard about this, I immediately thought of the Performing Arts Center in Greensboro, Vermont. That is a lovely spot with rooms for conferences, art, dance and music studios, art exhibits, a theater, and restaurant. Whatever the folks at Catamount Arts decide to produce in their new space, I'm sure it will be excellent and a welcome addition to St. Johnsbury and the surrounding community.
