This
December newsletter is dedicated to thankfulness. We are in that
usually joyful, often frantic period between Thanksgiving and Christmas
and Hanakkuh and Solstice, all those celebrations filled with the
promise of Hope. This Season is very different for most of us, to
different degrees.
Due
to Covid-19, we are shifting our annual holiday bake sale to allow you
to purchase assorted, delicious, homemade cookies online for pick up at
the shelter on Saturday, Dec. 19th from 10AM-Noon and 1PM-3PM. The
cookies will be prepackaged in containers of either 1 dozen cookies (for
$5) or 2 dozen cookies (for $8).
Kingdom Animal Shelter 2021 Calendar Our
2021 Calendar is now available for purchase! The calendar features
your favorite cat photos submitted by the public. With the holidays
coming up, a calendar would make a great gift for family, friends, or
yourself! The calendars are available for purchase at the local
businesses listed on our website, or you can purchase a calendar online
to be shipped to you or picked up at the shelter on December 19.
Even
though we can't hold Santa Paws this year due to the pandemic, we are
still lighting our Memorial Tree to remember and honor all of our furry
loved ones that we have lost. We held our lighting ceremony on Facebook,
to view it. The lights are available for purchase for $5 per
light. Starting on November 28th, the tree will be outside the shelter
and it will be lit every evening through the end of December.
Zander
is just one of those very special, memorable cats. He is a snout nosed
beautiful fella, about 5 years old. He is extremely personable, loves
to be with humans. Zander had a malformed ear canal. Because of this,
he has tended to get infections in his right ear, because fluids build
up in there and there is no air flow to keep things drier.
This
story starts with the rescue of one stray cat, which resulted in six
happy families celebrating the holiday season with young, cheerful
feline energy in their homes: Little bright lights, darting for play
mice and lifting people’s spirits during the dark stretch of a pandemic
winter close-down.
Thank you to Pat Coe for our wonderful Holiday Wreath!!
Thankful to our Shelter Community -a letter from Rod Lauman
Well,
2020 has been quite a year for everybody. While KAS has had many
changes due to the virus like the rest of the world, we have been able
to continue our mission of getting cats and kittens into wonderful
homes.
There are things to be thankful for even in this very strange and difficult year.
A
beautiful double-pawed rescue cat called Valentina had given birth to
eight healthy kittens in a KAS foster home. She was a wonderful mama and
her babies were thriving. In mid-October we posted their pictures on
the Petfinder website for adoptions, while Valentina continued to reside
with her foster mom Andrea.
Cats
are social, affectionate beings, and they generally like the company of
other cats. Unfortunately many domestic cats are raised and kept as
single cats and will therefore not easily accept other felines later in
life.
Did you know ... cows produce
more milk when listening to slow music.
We
are so grateful to all those who have donated so far to our annual
Chucky Fund/General Fund appeals. We have had a heart-warming
response. If you haven’t done so already, but wish to donate, here is
the letter that will give you more information about the appeal….as well
as the link to donate online, if you so choose.
