Down but not out!

I have had a few inquiries about why I haven't written on the blog for several days. Thank you for being concerned - I'm ok, but my desktop computer quit on me last week. It's in the shop, along with all my files, I'm afraid. All is secure and I should have a working computer back in service either later today or tomorrow, if all goes well. Then I will have the photos and information I am missing right now.

While I have my laptop, it isn't my preferred method of communicating. I have been able to keep up with emails, though. Fortunately, just before my desktop machine died, I had sent everything I needed to for our book to the other two lady authors, so our review process is continuing uninterrupted. I don't have my photo files and some other files that I normally use daily, so I decided to give everyone a vacation from my blog entries and wait for better days.

We have been watching the election process unfold, of course - amazing how tight this election is turning out to be. I think it is wonderful that so many people voted this time. That's what our democracy is all about - everyone gets an opportunity to express their opinion through their vote. There are always  disappointments - not everyone feels the same, but if there is a high representation throughout the nation, we need to be prepared to accept what the majority wishes are and begin to work to unite people and get important things done. It should never be "my way or the highway" - there are good ideas on both sides and two sides to every question. I hope people in Washington can begin to work together and become a reasonable, functioning government with a primary objective of looking out for the nation as a whole, doing what's best for our people rather than standing fast along party lines. That's a tall order. It doesn't seem to work that way very often. But I'm optimistic. I think there will be a point where people in government will stop and reflect - if being obstinate and closed-minded isn't getting them what they want, maybe, just maybe they will step back and see some advantage in being reasonable, seeing the other side of questions, and settling with a compromise. It might not be exactly what party lines dictate, or what they think they need to do to get reelected next time, but sometimes doing something is better than doing nothing, and as the saying goes, it could turn out to be "close enough for government work."

Another Adventure

This week turned out to be a doozie for me. I had anticipated going for a follow-up on my knee on Monday, but instead ended up in the ER at ...
