We've lost a lot of our snow in the last two days. We've had light rain and warm temps. Right now it's 34.9F - going down steadily since about 3 o'clock this afternoon when it was about 45F. I was out cutting some greens for swags and a wreath and it was like spring. I wore my "barn boots" because the snow was so wet and slushy. There are only about four inches on the ground, and I'm pretty sure we had more like a foot before this warm spell. I'm seeing some bare patches here and there where the snow had been blown away on knolls and hummocks. All of this spring warmth is going to change tonight, we're told.
It's getting close to Christmas, so we really want a nice covering of snow and some decent skiing, sledding and maybe skating during the holidays. I think that will happen.
I have to tell you about some photos that Liz Sargent brought to us last week for the book. I'm always on the lookout for "new" old photos, and Liz actually had one that shows Lake Side Park on Flint's Point in about 1913, with automobiles lined up near the beach. I had not seen this one, and actually there were others I hadn't seen, and that's really exciting. I'm not going to show them to you here - you'll have to wait for the book!
I'm also going to the Danville Historical Society later this week to pick up more photos from a special collection taken from old glass plates. I have no idea what is in this group, but I'm pretty sure few people have seen any of these! What a treasure, and I can't wait! We're hoping the book will be out by spring. I'll keep you posted!
