I've had some people contact me regarding a report on Lake Champlain International's Facebook page that lists Joe's Pond as having the blue/green algae bloom going on. At the meeting on July 6, Dorothea Penar addressed
that issue. She knows about the bloom, notified Water Quality people at
the state level and they tested, reported it is NOT toxic but Dorothea
is going to monitor it regularly and will report any changes. This is
apparently a normal occurrence in most ponds and lakes and comes and
goes without harm naturally. However Dorothea warned people to be wary and
keep children and pets out of the water where/when there is a bloom. It
should subside without any problems. I think Joe's Pond is on the list
because she noticed it and reported it. You could contact her (802-684-1129) for
details, but I don't think anything has changed here and there is no
cause for concern, at least for now.
