The shuffling and sorting out has begun. A boat ramp caught in the reeds at the north end of the big pond after floating away during the recent (and still) high water, has apparently been rescued and hopefully is back with its rightful owner.
Jim Farnsworth took these pictures of the ramp and the good Samaritans who hauled it back where it belongs. This sort of thing happens nearly every spring when the water gets high. People forget to tie down floatables when they leave in the fall. There are usually pieces of docks and sometimes other stuff floating around in the water making boating hazardous, especially with power boats when you are going too fast to really see something low in the water like a water-soaked piece of wooden dock.
Stuff floating around sometimes goes through the narrows and over the dam and is seriously damaged, so it's a good idea to remember to secure everything that is near the water before you leave. Even in the summer, things sometimes float away - usually kids' toys or inflatable rafts, etc.
Fortunately, we have watchful folks like Jim who pay attention to what is around them or out of place. Thanks, Jim - hopefully the boat ramp and owner will be reunited.
Our weather has been a little milder today, but is still  more like April than May. I can see the tree buds showing on the hard wood trees on the hill behind our house, so progress is being made, but I think it's still a little behind normal.
We went to the post office in West Danville a little earlier this afternoon and the road is rough with some muddy spots, but nothing very serious. Mostly pothole/washboard stuff and perfectly navigable. We just have to take it slow and easy. I think there is still quite a bit of frost in some places, but it will settle down soon. The trouble is, by the time we get some sunshine so it's pleasant to go outside, the black flies will be out. Just wait - I know what I'm talking about!
