I received a nice note from Cheryl Castner (Birch Bound Rd.) describing how much they had enjoyed their Vermont vacation at Joe's Pond, especially after the humid weather broke (!) and she sent a picture of a sunset over the pond. Sunsets are special here, and Cheryl said this one happened just before they had to head home. A nice way to remember their vacation!
We also received a shot of a rainbow last week over our house from Barbara Joyce Chase (North Shore Rd.) It is a different view than we usually see because I usually see them when we have showers in the evening, looking east, so this different perspective is interesting. I had a very similar picture from Andy Rudin, just a bit further down the pond (Old Homestead Rd.) Probably the same rainbow, but slightly different view.
Thanks to all three photographers. (Click on the images to make them larger.)
It's back-to-school for lots of young people, and families have moved home from Joe's Pond to accommodate that. Those of us still here either live here year around or are retired with no children to herd off to school, so lingering at the pond is an option. With hurricane season bearing down on the southern states, it is probably a good decision to delay heading that direction for a while. That's not saying we won't be impacted by the hurricanes that come up the coast - we will no doubt have some rainy, windy weather (like tonight) but hopefully nothing too severe.
On the more positive side, there are lots of church suppers and Fall Foliage events to keep people here. We look forward to the chicken pie and turkey dinners during the fall, North Danville and Cabot's events are coming up soon, and Autumn on the Green in Danville, too. All great food and good fun.
One of the Ride the Ridges routes took bikers up West Shore Road yesterday, apparently. We saw lots of bikers peddling up the long hill past our house. It was a perfect day for biking - not too hot and no rain. Sometimes the planets are perfectly aligned! We'll hope when Fall Foliage Week rolls around next month the same holds true. I still vividly recall ushering groups on tours to Cabot Plain with Mother Nature spitting snow at us!
