I love it! There's no end to the good deeds Joe's Ponders can manage. Here's a great story - and a photo!

From Nancy Buttura:
My son-in-law Jeff was out fishing early this morning in the big pond when he heard a scratching noise on the side of the boat.  When he looked over he saw this poor little squirrel trying to climb into the boat. Jeff took his fish net and took him out of the water onto the front seat. Poor thing was shivering and exhausted and probably would have drowned as he was quite a way from shore.  Jeff drove over to your side of the lake and let him off.

It looks like a gray squirrel, and we don't have a lot of them in our area - they feed on acorns and beechnuts, I believe, along with  other nuts, tree buds and bugs. We don't have a lot of either beech or oak trees here, so I suspect that may be why the grays are scarce. However, I do see one once in a while. I'm sure this guy will get along far better than if Jeff hadn't rescued him, and hopefully he'll find a friend or two he can share his escapade with.
I wonder how he happened to be in the water in the first place?!
Thanks, Nancy, and tell Jeff "thanks," too. It must have made his day to know he'd pulled off that successful rescue.
