I think posting this educational link on your blog is a friendly gesture for the health of Joe’s Pond. The ANR (as stated in Cabot’s Town Plan) considers Joe’s endangered because of development. Yes, Pam’s water quality effort re: aquatic invasives is much appreciated. However, that is only one aspect. Japanese knotweed is in/on the shores of Joe’s. Storm Friendly Driveways are not being constructed. Some boats create a wake slamming the shores and contribute to erosion despite an existing rule of no wake within 250’ of shoreline. “Having a stable shoreline is important for biodiversity and aquatic species and clean water”. Currently, the State is studying the known pollution effects of fireworks. It’s all about prevention. Period. Minus that and Joe’s will end up like Lake Carmi (a 1000 acre lake as opposed to 400 acre Joe’s). The JPA’s mission statement is about protecting the waters. Simply, this is not being done. According to JPA 1985 minutes it was voted to create a committee to study the noise/speed of boats. It’s time to reawaken this committee. I write this because all bodies of water have a tipping point.
