Last night we had our first "almost cold enough to freeze" night since last spring.  Fred covered the tomatoes and summer squash, and I took in some house plants from the grape arbor - but we believe it got only down to about 36 here.  Close enough.  Tonight is not going to be quiet as chilly, according to the forecast.  Today is bright and sunny, and is warming up nicely.  There's still a tinge of fall in the air, though.

We were in W. Danville to mail off some books for the Cabot Historical Society yesterday morning.  We were distressed to see that vandals had been at work by the parking lot across from the store.  Garey said they had damaged the gate at the beach, too, and in Walden had torn up a farmer's field - probably with a 4-wheel drive something or other.  Unfortunately, there are still a few numbskulls out there who have nothing to do and no regard for their community or for others' property.  With time on their hands and gas in the tank, they somehow feel compelled to go out and do stupid stuffIf they had any sense, they would put that energy to better use, perhaps pitching in to help a neighbor instead of being destructive.

While we were at the store, I looked at the list of campers who have taken advantage of the free  tablets to test their septic systems, and a good number have already taken them for the test.  I'm sure the people who take the tablets are anxious to learn if their system is ok, and if there seems to be a problem, they'll have it checked by a professional.  B & B Septic in St. Johnsbury would be a good start, to have the system pumped, and they can also often tell if there is a problem or if one's brewing.  Catch it early, before it gets too costly.  We'll have more information about those incentives mentioned in our letter to members last week.  In the meantime, thanks to all of you who have already tested your systems, and if JPA can help in any way, be sure to let us know.  All contacts are listed in the letter.

Another Adventure

This week turned out to be a doozie for me. I had anticipated going for a follow-up on my knee on Monday, but instead ended up in the ER at ...
