I heard this morning from Dave Creighton that the other sighting of the catamount was on Churchill Road, on West Hill. That would be about four miles away from Last Road, as the crow flies, where the other sighting was. We often hear of big cats being sighted. This article published in 2010 describes some of them. Cedric Alexander, who lives in Cabot, is quoted.
I'm confused because there seem to be a lot of names for the same animal - or even slightly different animals - like wildcat, puma, cougar, lynx etc., depending on the region. I have no doubt there are really big cats in our forests. Years ago when the area was first settled, most of our forests were gone to make open space for farms, but now farm land has gone back to forest land, making excellent habitat for all kinds of wild animals.
